The Government House Historical Society (GHHS) organizes programs and events all year round - including the well known Victorian Teas in the Henry Newlands Ballroom.
GHHS began as the Society for the Preservation of Saskatchewan House in 1969 when a small group of people (from the Council of Women, The Chamber of Commerce, the IODE and other local organizations) successfully lobbied for restoration of Saskatchewan House. Government House was declared a historical site in 1971, restoration of the House began in 1977, and it officially opened as a museum and was renamed Government House on September 4, 1980.
Amédée Forget Museum
Take a trip back in time to the early 1900s
Government House will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Canada Day. Come on in and tour the museum.
Beautiful antiques are on display throughout. Restored to the period of Saskatchewan’s first Lieutenant Governor - Amédée Forget (1898-1910), the Government House Museum gives you a glimpse of life at the turn of the 20th century. Back then the Lieutenant Governor and his family actually lived in the house and regularly entertained guests. Check out the dining room prepared for an elaborate dinner party. See what a day was like when cellphones and computers didn't exist!
