Today, the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, and Mr. Rich McIntyre were received by His Majesty King Charles III in Buckingham Palace.

“It is a tremendous privilege to be welcomed by His Majesty for a private audience in Buckingham Palace”, said Lieutenant Governor McIntyre. “I was honoured to meet with King Charles III and to express my gratitude for his strong support of Canada and Canadian sovereignty. In addition to discussing Saskatchewan's vibrant agricultural industry, I congratulated His Majesty on Great Britain's win at the 2025 Men's Worlds Curling Championships, hosted so beautifully in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan."

Her Honour presented the King with gifts representative of Saskatchewan including:

  • Lentil and chickpea snacks from the Three Farmers company of Saskatoon. Saskatchewan is a major producer of pulse crops.

  • A jar of Savoury Dill Pickle Mustard from Gravelbourg Mustard. Our province is the world’s largest exporter of mustard seed.

  • A green scarf for King Charles and a blue scarf for Queen Camilla, both designed and knit by Mariette Anderson of Gravelbourg from wool produced by the Canadian Fibre Mill located near Caron, Saskatchewan.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor first learned of the Canadian Fibre Mill, owned and operated by Karen and Howard Smith, through The Campaign for Wool. In 2010, His Majesty, when he was The Prince of Wales, helped launch the Campaign for Wool to educate the public about the benefits of wool and help grow the wool industry. The King continues to support the Campaign as Patron in several Commonwealth countries, including Canada.

Canadian vice-regal representatives traditionally meet with Canada’s monarch near the start of the Lieutenant Governor’s term. Her Honour the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre from Regina, originally Bethune, was sworn-in as Saskatchewan’s twenty-fourth Lieutenant Governor on January 31st, 2025.
