Legion Provincial President Presented Lieutenant Governor McIntyre with First Poppy

Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre received the “First Poppy” from the Royal Canadian Legion’s Provincial President of the Saskatchewan Command on October 29th at Government House in Regina as part of the launch of the annual Poppy Campaign in the province.

On Wednesday morning, October 29, 2025 at Government House in Regina, Her Honour Bernadette McIntyre hosted the Royal Canadian Legion – Saskatchewan Command's kickoff of their annual Poppy Campaign in our province. The Legion’s lapel poppy is a sacred symbol of remembrance. Millions of Canadians wear a poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed.

Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre pinned a poppy on the lapel of Retired Brigadier-General Cliff Walker at the Royal Canadian Legion’s First Poppy ceremony at Government House in Regina, Sakatchewan on October 29, 2025.

The Lieutenant Governor had the honour of receiving the “First Poppy” in the province from Roberta Taylor, the new Provincial President of the Legion's Saskatchewan Command. Both Her Honour and President Taylor offered remarks, speaking on the significance of the poppy as we lead up to Remembrance Day on November 11th. They each also commented on the important work the Legion does all year round in support of veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

After receiving the First Poppy, Her Honour presented the second poppy to Major (Retired) Keith Inches who served in the Canadian Forces for 37 years, retiring as a major. Following retirement, Mr. Inches devoted considerable time and energy to preserving Canada’s military history. He created the Saskatchewan Military Museum in 1984 and has been curator ever since.

At the end of the formal ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor then presented poppies to everyone in attendance and visited with guests during the reception.

Poppies will be available to the public throughout the province starting Friday, October 31st and up to Remembrance Day on November 11th. Donations are welcome during the Poppy Campaign and year round. Money raised fund Legion programs that serve veterans and their families in many ways.
