On Saturday, November 22nd , 2025, the 60th edition of the Vanier Cup was held in Mosaic Stadium on a beautiful sunny afternoon. This was just the first time Regina had hosted the cup, and only the second time for Saskatchewan. Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre was thrilled to toss the coin at the start of the game. The crowd was buzzing as the University of Saskatchewan's Huskies were representing the West in this championship game for Canada's top prize in university football.
On the 60th Anniversary of the Vanier Cup, it was held in Regina, Saskatchewan for the very first time with the University of Saskatchewan taking on the University of Montreal on November 22, 2025 at Mosaic Stadium.
The game was exciting and close until the last few minutes when the University of Montreal's Carabins moved ahead to win the national final 30-16 over the Huskies.
Congratulations to the Carabins on their win and the Huskies on a great season and doing the whole province proud.
The Lieutenant Governor was delighted to participate in the official Coin Toss because she is a football fan, and because the Vanier Cup is named in honour of the late Governor General George Vanier.
Her Honour also attended several other special events held in the Queen City leading up to the big game. On Friday morning, November 21st Her Honour thoroughly enjoyed the Community Breakfast & Pep Rall ypresented by Sask Lotteries.
At the Vanier Cup Breakfast and Pep Rally, Her Honour Bernadette McIntyre was cheering on the Western Champion University of Saskatchewan Huskies, and the event hosts from the University of Regina.
On Thursday evening, November 20th, the Lieutenant Governor took in the annual Vanier Cup Award Gala at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina. Several Saskatchewan players were named to the First and Second First Team All-Canadians.
Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre hosted a reception at Government House on November 21st, 2025 as part of the Vanier Cup festivities and invited organizers and football players honoured at the annual awards gala.
The 2025 Vanier Cup was brought to Regina in partnership between the University of Regina, the City of Regina and U SPORTS. Her Honour hosted a reception on November 21st at Government House for the organizers, sponsors and football players in town for the awards ceremony who were not playing in the game. Congratulations to the committee, hosts and sponsors on a successful and entertaining Vanier Cup game and week.
